Physical Activity - earlier in the day

Why I Lift Earlier in the Day

About an hour after breakfast, 4-6 times a week: here's why my workouts happen in the morning, and what I think the science says about it.

Why I Lift Earlier in the Day

After breakfast I head to the gym. I like to work out 4-6 times a week, usually around 10am or 11am.

I like to lift earlier in the day for metabolic reasons, and also just because it's my preference. There isn't a vast amount of research in chronobiology in humans yet on how the timing of workouts affects your metabolism. But in my years of lifting, I've found that about an hour after breakfast is an excellent time.

Your skeletal muscle actually has a molecular clock, and I believe consistency in the timing of lifts is beneficial because of that.

Cortisol is also highest after waking, and I like to use that to my advantage in the gym.
